Living with knee osteoarthritis

If knee osteoarthritis is making everyday movement harder, SwaKnee is one drug-free, non-invasive option to discuss with your clinician. Here is what it is — and what it is not.

What knee osteoarthritis is

Knee osteoarthritis is a common joint condition in which the cartilage that cushions the knee gradually wears down. This can lead to pain, stiffness, swelling and reduced movement, which often build slowly over time.

Management usually combines several approaches — exercise and physiotherapy, weight management, medication where appropriate, and sometimes surgery. Supportive technologies such as PEMF are being explored as an addition to this toolkit, not a replacement for it.

Where SwaKnee fits

SwaKnee is intended as an adjunct — something you might use alongside the plan your clinician has set, not instead of it.

  • Drug-free and non-invasive
  • Worn at home or in clinic, under guidance
  • Simple to operate

Safety & sensible precautions

SwaKnee is designed to be non-invasive and drug-free. Even so, PEMF is not right for everyone, and a few simple precautions matter:

  • Talk to a qualified healthcare professional before starting, especially if you have any ongoing medical condition.
  • Tell them if you are pregnant or have an implanted electronic or metallic device, such as a pacemaker.
  • Follow the device's official instructions for use, which set out the applicable warnings and contraindications.
  • Stop and seek advice if you feel unwell or notice anything unexpected during use.

Your questions

Frequently asked by patients

Will SwaKnee take my knee pain away?

We cannot promise that. SwaKnee is designed to support the management of knee osteoarthritis, and it is still being evaluated. Some people may notice more benefit than others, and it works best as part of a wider plan that includes exercise and your clinician's advice.

Is it a replacement for my medication or surgery?

No. SwaKnee is intended to complement your existing care, not replace it. Never stop prescribed medication or change a treatment plan without speaking to the professional who prescribed it.

Does it hurt, and can I feel it working?

The device is non-invasive and drug-free. Some people using PEMF report a mild warming sensation from increased local circulation; sensations vary between individuals. If anything feels uncomfortable, stop and seek advice.

How long is a session and how often?

There is no single answer that suits everyone. Session length and frequency should follow the advice of your healthcare provider and the device's instructions for use.

Can I use it with physiotherapy or other treatments?

It is designed to sit alongside other approaches such as physiotherapy. Let your care team know you are using it so they can factor it into your overall plan.
